The Caretier Story
Family tradition, told the way it's been passed down — from the cart road to the road you drive today.
Family legend, not a genealogical record
What follows is Caretier family tradition — a story told across generations and carried into our brand. It's heritage and inspiration, not a documented, verified lineage. We tell it because it explains who we are and why dependable transportation is in our name, not because we can trace every detail back to a record.
Cart drivers of the old country
As the story has been told down through generations, the Caretier name traces back to the old trade of the carter — the driver who kept goods, and the people who depended on them, moving along the road. Family lore places that work as far back as the year 1192, hauling freight over routes that didn't forgive a broken wheel or an unreliable horse. Reputation was the whole business: a carter who showed up, on time, with the load intact, was the one asked back.
That's the thread we've chosen to keep. Long before “logistics” was a word, dependability was the job description.
A name passed down
Caretier — the name given, as family tradition holds, to those who did that work: the carrier, the carter, the one entrusted with the load. Over the generations that followed, the name traveled with the family, carried forward the same way the trade itself was — person to person, story to story, more remembered than recorded.
Crossing the Atlantic
Family story holds that the name made the crossing to America along with the family itself, and that somewhere in the passage through immigration, record-keeping, and a new country's spelling, the old name Caretier was shortened and anglicized to Carter. We don't have a paper trail that pins down exactly when or where that happened — it's a detail that's softened with time, the way family stories do. What survived clearly enough to matter is the trade behind the name: getting people and their goods where they needed to go, reliably.
Caretier today
In building this business, we brought the old family name back out, on purpose. Caretier Tires exists to do, for tires and brakes, what a good carter always did: help you get where you're going, on wheels you can trust, without the runaround.
Modern performance. Medieval durability. Rolling forward since 1192 — as the story goes.
